At a height of 2100 metres above sea level, the towering Chembra Peak is located near Meppadi in the southern part of Wayanad. This peak is especially popular among mountain climbers and trekkers alike. It is the tallest peak in the region and climbing it would test one's physical prowess.
The climb up the Chembra Peak is an exhilarating experience, as each stage in the climb unfolds great expanses of Wayanad and the view gets wider as one goes up to its summit. Going up and coming down the peak would take a full day. Those who would like to camp at the top are assured of an unforgettable experience.
There are even temporary camps that are set atop the peak, so that anyone who has successfully climbed the peak can easily choose to stay there for a few days. The climb is rather intense, but the reward on the top is worth the sweat! The panoramic views of Wayanad are rather breathtaking, and the beautiful mountain lake at the top is impressive as well.
Sleeping bags, canvas, log huts, guides and trekking equipments are provided by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Trekkers are sure to enjoy the entire view of the Wayanad district from the top of the peak, while prior permission is required from the Forest Range Officer at Meppadi for trekking at Chembra Peak. Those who require camping gear may contact the District Tourism Promotion Council, located at Kalpetta in Wayanad.
